
NGA’s director of professional development, Emma Balchin and senior policy and research officer, Nina Sharma discussed the emerging key themes from external reviews of governance conducted by National Leaders of Governance over the last 12 months. The webinar identified the most common themes, from around 200 reviews, which hinder board effectiveness and share some considerations for boards in preventing these challenges.

Emma has over 25 years’ experience in education, leadership and school improvement and in leading professional development services. Emma has also governed and chaired across maintained schools, academy trusts and local academy committees.

Senior Policy and Research Officer
Nina’s role entails developing NGA’s policy agenda and positions, adding to the learning of the organisation and improving the governance of schools. She is responsible for policy relating to Ofsted and the broad, balanced curriculum.
